Summer

Summer Pondering

School is still in session in our town and it is June 18th. Although summer doesn’t officially start until June 21st, the last three days have certainly been summery!  I wrote this poem a few years ago when my kids were smaller.  But since I am in summer mode, I thought I would post it now.

Summer how I love thee
Let me count the ways

Bright moonlit night time skies
Follow long sunshine filled days
It is a time for swimming
At the ocean, pool or lake
Eating home grown veggies from the garden
And homemade blueberry cake
Juicy delicious watermelon
Helps to keep us cool

And children spend hours
Just playing in the pool
Day trips to fun filled places
Finding ways to beat the heat
Laughing at my children’s faces
As they eat an ice-cream treat
T-shirts, shorts and sandals
Are the perfect summer attire
While attending BBQ’s and gatherings
And toasting marshmallows by the fire
Yes, those lazy, hazy days of summer
The best days of the year
But they do not last forever
So enjoy them while they are here
