The Broken Branch of Friendship

The current weather pattern has produced cold, wind and rain.  The trees are bare and there are branches scattered all over the ground.  Yes, the results of a storm.  It got me thinking of relationships and how they too are affected by stormy times.  Are they strong enough to withstand the wind?  Or will the storm be too much and cause a branch to break.   Will the tree die altogether?  Or will it recover and bloom with healthy green leaves.

Broken Branch of Friendship

A broken branch of friendship lies on the cold hard ground

From the wind of disappointment that whirled round and round

A tree once strong and healthy now stands bare and worn

The product of an unexpected and unsympathetic storm

I have been remembering the kind words you always used  to say

And they seem in direct contrast with your mean actions of today

I don’t know what you are feeling or what is going through your mind

To make you act so unfriendly and to treat me so unkind

When you are not ignoring me your words are cold and curt

I won’t pretend this change in you isn’t causing me to hurt

It causes such confusion as to why you act the way you do

When I have done my very best to be a friend to you

People have a dark side, that much I know is true

I never thought I see the darkness rear itself in you

You no longer want my friendship; your actions tell me so

Is this goodbye to a friendship that started years ago?
