Our preschool year ended and summer is in full swing. I had some days off to reflect until summer camp starts. I thought I would share a little story.
On the last day of school I received some gifts and the one’s that mean the most are the hand written cards showing gratitude. One parent handed me tea roses and daisies in a small mason jar, a card and a picture drawn by her little one. The flower bouquet was small and simple but beautiful. Her words in her card touched my heart. She thanked me for helping her son throughout the year and appreciated my help and guidance. You see, he had some trouble learning how to spell his name. I eventually made up a little song for him to help remember his letters and shared it with his mom so they could practice at home. It worked. The message on his picture brought happy tears to my eyes. His mom wrote the words that came from her little guy. She took the time to write his feeling on his drawing. He thanked me for making up his “name song” and for working hard making school fun. He also said how he liked the way I was always laughing at his funny stories and how I protected his Lego creations from other children. As I was reading his words I could see his expression on his face and hear his voice in my mind. I framed his photo and words as well has the card from the mom. It will serve as a reminder to me that what I do makes a difference. It doesn’t take long to say kind words to someone and the recipient may remember them forever. This small gift had a big meaning.
